Do I have to be eighteen and up or twenty-one and up in order to join a roller derby team?

I'm seveteen and live in Washington virginia. Do you think it would be a huge problem if I was seventeen, or is it a must that I have to be eighteen to play or practice? I really want to join or atleast show up for practices so I can be ready when I turn eighteen.
