Smoking in communal areas?

I'd ask your landlord what the situation is regarding smoking in communal areas is, as it could be said that it is a public area therefore smoking shouldn't be allowed, however it may come back as being part of their home and so it is allowed. does it say anything on your tenancy agreement? You may also want to contact your local CAB and ask them. the other problem you may encounter is, who will enforce the rule and if folk got wind it was you who got the rule in place or enforced, could your living situation become very uncomfortable? Tricky. Good luck though.
