Who chants four times a day?

I have a noisy neighbor upstairs who chants at least four times a day, sometimes more. It sounds as if he throws himself on the floor whilst he does this because it gets louder and is accompanied by a thudding noise. I'm really curious to know what he might being doing or what faith he might be. He is Italian and as far as I know Catholicism is the main religion in Italy so I have no clue. I'm just being nosy really. I don't think it's Islam, I've heard the call for prayer and it doesn't sound the same. I can't understand the words he chants but they are short and rhythmic and not drawn out (sort of like a da-duh, da-duh, da-duh, followed by dada-duh, dada-duh) and then he repeats it over and over and then *thud*, he'll do this a few times in a row and then again throughout the day.
